Corps extrêmes

Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels

Since its creation, the Maison has been keenly interested in the world of dance. This attachment grew stronger at the end of the 1940s when Claude Arpels met choreographer George Balanchine. Their shared passion for precious stones led to an artistic bond, giving birth to Balanchine’s ballet Jewels, first performed in New York in April 1967. Echoing this encounter, a new collaboration was initiated in 2012 with Benjamin Millepied, former principal dancer in the New York City Ballet and founder of the company L.A. Dance Project.

In 2020, these close ties between the Maison and dance were perpetuated with the creation of Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels, an initiative that aims to promote dance companies and institutions worldwide. This program expresses the Maison’s commitment to supporting the choreographic repertoire and presenting contemporary creations to wider audiences.
Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels reaffirmed its commitment to the work of Rachid Ouramdane, an artist with whom it has built close ties since 2020.

After having supported the creation of Corps extrêmes (2021), the program collaborated with international partners for its performance. In May 2023, Les Traceurs, an on-site version of the piece, was presented during the Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels Festival, which took place for the first time in Hong Kong, with French May Arts Festival. Meanwhile, Corps extrêmes was performed at The Arts Center at New York University Abu Dhabi. In addition, the piece will be presented next fall in Seoul and New York.

As part of this rich program, Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels supported Sadler’s Wells for the presentation of Corps extrêmes in London.
