The concept began in 2022, when Glenn Spiro created a sumptuous necklace set with ceramic tubes and turquoise beads from an important Ancient Egyptian tomb. His son Joe, who joined the business in 2017, continues to explore the artistry and adornment of bygone eras, as well as historic geological specimens whose rarity are equalled by their aesthetic appeal.
For 2024, the Materials of the Old World collection celebrates the warmth and lustre of antique Baoulé gold, which was crafted in Côte d’Ivoire in the 18th century. The Baoulé people were known for their masterful weaving, carving and gold-working, and their intricate gold castings were traded throughout West Africa. Featuring abstract patterns, geometric shapes and spiritually significant symbols, original Baoulé gold is revered as a relic of a lost era of artisanal craftsmanship.
